CONCORD, CALIFORNIA – Going back more than half a century, when iconic fictional characters Juan Valdez and Mrs. Olson espoused the virtues of premium coffee, this topic has been front and center in advertising lore.

In the mid-1970s, Americans were drinking from two to three cups of “Joe” per day. This figure went down for a couple of decades but has been on the upswing for the last quarter century. Coffee has made a huge comeback. Among the reasons are:
