Concord: Where Families Come First
From Toddlers to Grandparents, Concord Has Activities for All Ages
As the largest city in Contra Costa County, Concord is home to a vast array of family-friendly activities.
For the youngest among us, the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department offers age-based activities that are fun and aid in your child’s development. In addition to 26 City parks, there’s also Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, which is a 35-acre all-ages water park, and Pixieland, an amusement park geared towards toddlers to eight-years olds. Add in community activities in Todos Santos Plaza, like pictures with Santa and the annual July 4th Parade, for example, and one can see why Concord’s motto is “Where Families Come First”.
For teens and tweens, there are sports leagues of all types, two movie theaters, two arcade and gaming centers, escape rooms, laser tag, three major shopping centers and malls, a public skate park, volunteer opportunities and local theater plays, among other positive activities.
For adults, there are adult recreation leagues, with the most popular being pickleball and team softball. After the game, teams may want to head over to one of several craft breweries and taprooms, or maybe the annual Music & Market series that is home to live music and a Farmers’ Market every Thursday from May through October. Are you a music lover? The 12,500-seat Concord Pavilion hosts national touring acts in its open-air venue. For those who like to get outdoors, there’s a 9-hole disc golf course, and Lime Ridge Open Space is a popular hiking destination. For adults 50+ and better, the Concord Senior Center hosts weekly activities, social events, classes, trips and tours.
